School & Education

There is evidence, as I shared in “Happy School Choices” saying that the quality of elementary school has a measurable impact on physical brain development of your kids. When a child is happy in school, curious to learn and feels supported in the school community then the brain is developing measurably in a healthier way. If a school community is truly connected, the students and teachers are connected and are all growing together, teachers and students. In such a scenario the children can learn better and feel better. The feeling of being a part of the school community is key, brings fun and actual growth. Your child doesn’t have to feel connected to school every day, but for a majority of the days your child should feel happy to go to school, believe the teachers is good and have one or two friends, not thousands. If this is not the case, you can think about changing something. Again, as I already shared, please include your child in school choices so your child feels a certain sense of power and control. In the end it is your child’s life. When your child is part of the decision-making process, your child will more likely not regret the choice afterwards. I help you along the way, your child and you.

What makes kids happy in school

Having fun, a sense of curiousness and feeling safe in school makes kids happy in school.

Children spend most of their days in school. Therefore, school is an important factor of their overall well-being and sense of happiness. We have explored together already how a school needs to give a child a sense of feeling connected to the school, to have a sense of support by the teachers. I can name you a few things that makes kids happy in school:

- an environment where innovation and suggestion for improvement is welcome.

- an environment where curiosity is key and not the result, where realistic aims are set that are still challenging enough.

- an environment where your child has good relationships with teachers and students

- an environment where a community is present, and where is no room for bullying or any other form of exclusion.

- an environment where the teachers have fun teaching things. With this the students will have fun learning things.

- an environment where your child feels safe and has people to talk to if it needs help.
